Nikolai Potolovsky
Two Pieces for Cello and Piano, Op.3
Nikolai Potolovsky (1878-1927) was born in Moscow where he studied cello and composition at the Moscow School of Music and Drama where he later taught. He composed in many genres and this cello sonata is numbered among his more important works.
The Two Pieces for Cello and Piano were composed around 1906 and were intended as short recital works or encores. The first is a charming and lyrical Larghetto while the second is a an fetching scherzo.
These two lovely works make a welcome addition to the cellist's repertoire and we recomend them to professionals and amateurs alike.
