Three Slavonic Dances for String Quartet from Op.72

Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) needs no introduction. He is one of the best known composers of all time. His two sets of Slavonic Dances, Opp.46 and 72,  are justly famous but in the version for orchestra. Few people know that they were originally written for piano four hands. His publisher Simrock asked Dvorak to arrange the works for orchestra which he did. The great popularity of the Op.46 dances, which came out in 1878 made his name for he was relatively unknown up until the time, eventually led his publisher to ask for another set which became his Op.72. These were published in 1886. Simrock, after Dvorak's death, with a view to increasing sales further, commissioned several well know musicians to make arrangements of some of the better known dances for various ensembles including string quartet. Our edition presents Nos. 10, 13 and 16
