Trio in a minor, Op.114

Neither Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) nor his Trio in a minor, Op.114 originally for Piano, Clarinet and Cello need any introduction. Both are famous. And yes, this clarinet trio is available elsewhere.

However, this Trio in an alternate arrangement for Piano, Clarinet, and BASS is not readily available. And nowhere is it available in as fine an arrangement as that by Dr. Patricia Weitzel. Dr Weitzel is an Assistant Professor of Bass at Augustana College, and is currently a Teaching Artist at St Ambrose University, and is a member of both the Des Moines and Quad Cities Symphony Orchestras and was formerly a Teaching Artist at Drake University.

This arrangement not only entirely retains the character of the original but provides an added dimension of depth to the work. But you don't have to take our word for it. Listen to the soundbites from a live performance made by Dr Weitzel and her colleagues. Not only bassists will delight in this fine arrangement.

After Brahms' death, several publishers decided to offer alternate versions of this trio in which either the violin or the viola were used as a substitute for the clarinet. The best ever made, in our opinion, was by the outstanding German composer Georg Schumann, whose chamber music we offer. We are pleased to also make Georg Schumann's alternate arrangements available.
