Joseph Barat
Fantasie Romantique for Clarinet and Piano
Joseph Barat (1882-1962) was born in Paris. His father had been a soloist with the Band of the Third Republic. Barat studied at the Paris Conservatory with Paul Vidal and Georges Caussade. and became a military bandmaster in Lyon and later in Paris. Starting in 1933, Barat was a bandmaster with the French Army. Because of this, most of his compositions are written for solo wind instruments with piano or orchestral accompaniment.
His Fantasie Romantique for Clarinet and Piano dates from 1900. It is a lovely work combining elements of French impressionism with older classical elements. Long out of print, we are pleased to make it available again.
