Georges Antoine
Georges Antoine (1892-1918) was born in Belgian city of Liege. He studied at the conservatory there winning several prizes. An asthmatic, he nonetheless enlisted in the army at the outbreak of WWI in 1914. The war years did not improve his condition and he died shortly after the war’s close.
Antoine's Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op.3 in A flat Major was begun in 1912 and completed three years later in 1915. Originally in four movements, he scrapped the final two and replaced in with one big movement. Dramatic and at times almost violent, the work is clearly in the French impressionist tradition although there is much which departs from it with several original ideas and treatments.
Long been out of print, we are pleased to make it available once more and think it will interest both professionals and technically assured amateur players who are looking for something fresh and different.
